42 Regiments
Title, came about due to a re-numbering exercise in 1947.
The
Regiment was actually formed at the turn of the century ( 1900 )
The origins of 42nd Regt are to be found in the
History of 32nd Brigade Royal Field
Artillery,
which was formed as part of the reorganisation
of the Royal Field Artillery in 1900.
In April 1923 the brigade was renumbered 16
Brigade Royal Field Artillery
In 1924 the seperate factions of RFA and RGA were amalgamated and hencforth
all Field Brigades
were titled "
Field Brigade Royal Artillery " Thus
16th Brigade RFA
became
16 Field Brigade Royal Artillery.
This title remained until September 1938 when
all Royal Artillery and RHA brigades were reorganised
yet again and they became
16 Field Regiment RA
The next reorganisation came about in 1947 when
the Title changed to
42nd Field Regiment RA.
In October 1962 the Regiment title changed to
42nd Medium Regiment
That title changed once again, when the Regiment
was posted to Fallingbostle in 1971 to
42nd Heavy Regiment RA
It was whilst stationed in Fallingbostle - on
the 25th February 1977
that the Regiment was DISBANDED
